Lawrence Gill, Grants Administrator with the Dodge Jones Foundation, and Ron Scherba, Information Technology Management, discuss plans to upgrade and redesign CJC’s educational technology.
Cisco Junior College recently received the first $250,000 of a $935,000 technology grant. The gift from the Dodge Jones Foundation will have a positive impact on all areas of the College, from the learning that takes place in the classroom to the support services and business functions of the College.
“CJC is facing a critical situation with regards to technology, and the substantial nature of this gift will provide a great deal of the necessary resources to truly make a difference in our quest to improve teaching, learning and service to the students and the community through technology,” said Dr. Colleen Smith, President of Cisco Junior College.
In partnership with Computer Vision, an Abilene based technology solutions firm owned and operated by Rob and Julie Beckam, Cisco Junior College has embarked on an ambitious program to upgrade and redesign its educational technology.
Beginning in the summer of 2006, the CJC Information Technology staff and Computer Vision’s Ron Scherba developed a detailed plan for improving technology in support of teaching, learning and student services. Recognizing the vital work Cisco Junior College does to provide the Big Country with affordable education and skills development, The Dodge Jones Foundation generously provided the funding necessary for the College to realize its educational technology goals. According to Scherba this grant will enable Cisco Junior College to address immediate issues, such as the networking hardware, phone system, and the College’s website.
“We are so appreciative of the Dodge Jones Foundation. With their generous gift and the hard work of our staff and Computer Vision, we will be able to do some really great things for the community,” Dr. Smith said.
