Youth and Family Ministry
The Youth and Family ministry programs at the Church of Christ in Cisco center around the thought that Christ centered homes help to strengthen the family as a single unit, as well as the larger church family.
It is our goal to provide spiritual centered bible study, recreation, worship, and fellowship among the members of Christ’s body. We offer classes for all ages of families who attend the Church of Christ in Cisco. Cradle roll, 2’s and 3’s, 4’s and 5’s, 1st- 3rd grades, 4th and 5th grade, 6th – 8th grade, High School, and Young adult and couples classes. Our Teen class is currently involved in a faith-centered class on Sunday mornings and alternate between a singing and “teen talk” classes on Wednesday evenings. The singing class centers on traditional church songs as well as “devotional” songs that are popular among teens. The Teen Talk class is a time of reflection on our lives that allows teens to discuss problems with input from each other and biblical references to help them work through any situation. Our Sunday morning Young Adult class is a discussion-centered class with different topics concerning issues of everyday life with God’s word as our guide. It is critical in these times for men and women with families to grow together spiritually in order to cope with the trials life has to offer and this class allows each member to feel the warmth of Christ’s love with their fellow brothers and sisters.
There are several opportunities for families and teens to participate in activities related to the Youth and Family ministries. One of the larger of those events includes Lake Cisco Christian Camp. Besides the annual week of camp that our congregation sponsors, there are many youth rallies and church days out at the camp. This spring we will be taking a family retreat to Lake Brownwood in April. We will also have a Men/Boys retreat as well as a Ladies/Girls retreat in May. Along with monthly Family Game Nights and trips for activities such as bowling, athletic contests, etc. our Youth and Families stay very busy fellowshipping with one another outside of bible study and worship times as well.
One of the messages that Christ called men to was to help your brother. Our teens and families are involved with opportunities to help others who are in need. We have service projects to help others with small jobs that otherwise might not be done. We have made plans to help clean up areas of our community that have long been neglected and we are currently involved in a food drive for the Manuelito Navajo Children’s Home in Gallup N.M., where we hope to travel to and do more work this summer. Other projects include our annual Sweethearts Banquet for our widows and widowers as well as the annual Christmas in May project which local officials coordinate.
Our younger children stay very busy here as well. Along with the Sunday morning and Wednesday evening bible classes we offer a variety of activities for our 5th grade and under children. JAM class, which is short for Jesus And Me, is a very popular class for our younger children that are held on Sunday nights beginning at 6:00 in the large room on the third floor. This class offers excellent bible lesson opportunities and interaction. It also provides our teens with the opportunity to learn to teach the younger children who look up to them with so much admiration. Another popular class is our KFC meeting that we have every third Tuesday of the month in the Fellowship Hall at 4:45 p.m. Kids For Christ provides an opportunity for our younger kids to apply the biblical principal of caring for others through various works and activities. We also have monthly devotionals for this age group, providing activities for them to grow and learn more about Jesus. And who could mention a children’s ministry without mentioning Vacation Bible School. An annual summer study time where our children learn stories through drama and puppet productions as well as the traditional Bible classes. We are currently planning this years VBS which will include learning centers in Bible, Singing, and Arts and Crafts.
