Property Clean Up

As you may have noticed, there are several properties being cleaned up around town. The Cisco Police department, City of Cisco, Economic Development, and other organizations and individuals have been working tirelessly to get the properties in need of attention back on track. This has not all happened overnight and the process is slow. However, they are committed to bringing properties into compliance. Several hundred letters have been sent to property owners requesting that they clean their properties. These letters may include mowing, cleaning up junk and debris, removing junk vehicles, tearing down or fixing dilapidated structures, and other things.

We are hoping that people will take their own initiative and clean their property before the police get involved. There are several reasons to clean your property. First it will help your town, neighborhood, and your property look better. Second, it will help increase your property value, your neighbor’s property value, and real estate value as a whole for the area. Third, it will help control insects like mosquitoes that thrive in tall grass and pools of water that stand inside of junk. Also, it will help control populations of rodents, skunks, opossums, and other disease carrying animals. It helps to make properties safe for children that you might have or children who play in neighborhoods around your property. Also if properties are clean then it will be more likely to attract potential business owners to the area. It helps to decrease the fire danger that we all know can get out of control quickly. There are many more reasons, but the bottom line is that it’s better for the community as a whole when you clean your properties.

We have a beautiful community that has a lot of potential. There are many things happening to attract people to the area. One of them is the new football field that I am sure everyone has seen by now. There are already band competitions and teams signed up to play on it that would not normally be here. This will attract many people to our community. If we have a clean town, it will help bring them back which is good for the economy. Everything works hand in hand with the other.

We are committed to making the City of Cisco better than ever. People that have not cleaned their properties are being cited to court and fined, then re-cited if they still don’t clean up the problem. There are actually some people that have been fined several times and are still refusing to clean their properties. The city is now entering onto their properties, cleaning them, placing liens against the deeds, and still citing them to court if they don’t maintain it. The city should not have to clean your property up. We are not trying to get into peoples pocketbooks. We would much rather you spend the money on cleaning your property up than giving it to the city for unnecessary fines. The whole goal is to get the city cleaned up. It takes everyone working together to make this happen.

So if you have a property that needs attention, please take care of it for the good of your community. The ordinances are available at City Hall or the Cisco Police Department or online HERE
