      Chief G.E. Bedford was killed in the line of duty on December 23rd, 1927
       Cisco Police Chief G.E. Bedford was a career lawman and the former Eastland County Sheriff. Chief Bedford was fatally shot while attempting to apprehend the suspects of the infamous Santa Claus Bank Robbery.

      Chief Bedford was struck five times by bullets from the robbers' guns as he covered the front of the bank which was then located at 708 Avenue D. (later renamed Conrad Hilton Ave.) A state historical marker has been placed at the sight and Chief Bedford's name enshrined at the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial in Washington D.C. as well as the Texas Peace Officer's Memorial in Austin, Texas. He was 60 years old and was laid to rest in the Oakwood Cemetery in Cisco, Texas.
