A state historical marker has been placed at the sight of the robbery and Officer Carmichael has been enshrined in the Texas Peace Officer's Memorial in Austin, Texas and in the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial in Washington, D.C. He was 60 years old and was laid to rest in the Oakwood Cemetery in Cisco, Texas.
